"Studies on the Constituents of Papaver somniferum L. cultivated in Korea"
1. We, authors cultivated Papaver somniferum L. (opium poppy and tall annual poppy) in Seoul and collected them in unripe and ripe time separately to determine their five major alkaloid contents.
The poppies collected were divided into capsule, stem, root and leaf. And we determined the content of morphine, codeine, noscapine, thebaine and papaverine respectively.
The results are as follows:
1. The alkaloid content of unripe poppies is higher than that of ripe ones.
2. Regerdless of their maturity, alkaloid content of poppies is the highest in the part of capsule, followed by leaf, stem and root.
3. The alkaloid content of opium poppy is comparatively higher than that of tall annual poppy.
